The legacy of Sri L.V. Prasad (1908-1994) – a renowned Indian director, producer and founder of the eponymous LV Prasad Film & TV Academy – and his films have helped many filmmakers shape their values and commitment to cinema as a true family entertainment medium. During his working days he would often express the desire to develop more knowledgeable and technically skilled filmmakers in order to make cinema truly meaningful.

In recognition of his great contribution to cinema, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award (the highest award for films in India) was conferred on him in 1983. The dream of Sri L. V. Prasad came alive when the Academy opened its doors to young aspirants wanting to realise their creative dreams in the world of film and television.

And that vision is mutually shared by both LV Prasad Film & TV Academy and Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan.

There are theories linking the name of the 19th century and Vedic scholar Max Mueller and the Sanskrit term 'Moksha Moola'. Hence, our contest 'Moksha Moola' owes its title to this connection. 'Moksha Moola' illustrates the ongoing effort of the Goethe-Institut, fostering young, talented and motivated people to present their own creative film work. The renowned local jury comprising of Ms. V. R. Devika (Founder and Managing trustee of the ASEEMA [without boundaries] Trust), Mr. Sadanand Menon (cultural journalist and cultural theorist) and Mr. Pushkar (a Kollywood film director) took the delicate task of selecting the winners from a group of 64 applicants.

Indian residents under 28 years could submit their ideas from November 29th, 2011 to March 31st, 2012. The theme of 'Moksha Moola', struggle for a place called peace, had been deliberately kept ambiguous, so that young participants from Tamil Nadu could imagine freely and come up with out of the box ideas. There is no doubt that we live now in rather troubled times as the media provides us a constant source of information on strife, violence, corruption, erosion of human rights and environmental degradation.

The contestants were told that the solution to the challenge of expressing their feelings and analysis of all the difficult situations today lay in identifying one incident/action, which could epitomise the participants’ feelings and to capture it in a minute-long film.

After the challenging and difficult decision to award the best video contributions – that’s especially manifested in the fact, that the third place has been shared by two participants –, we are now proud to announce the winners’ names and film titles of the 'Moksha Moola' video content:

1st Prize: Suman Majumder

2nd Prize: Sayeed Maaz Kazmi
