Nowadays lighting plays a prominent role at city planning, especially with regard to a cityscape or the impact on an appearance of newly constructed buildings. In this context, major cities – for example, metropolises like Chennai - are most affected with lighting problems that would enhance the cityscape.
'Shine a Light' is therefore an attempt by the Goethe-Institut Chennai to lay the focus along with its partners and sponsors on this rising and still being more and more evident problem. This workshop should raise awareness of the importance of light installation in cities and enables students and architects to improve their lighting skills in workshops.
The Light Installation at the Indo-German Urban Mela Chennai is being planned in the form of a student workshop and will be organised by Dr. Amardeep M. Dugar (Director, Lighting Research & Design in Chennai) in association with the School of Architecture & Planning, Anna University Chennai. It intends to teach budding architects and designers the lighting design process and simultaneously show the wide public how urban spaces can be enhanced through good architectural lighting design.
The workshop will explore the philosophy and practice of state-of-the-art lighting technology, and study the relationship between light, humans and spaces. The lighting installation itself will evolve around the concept of StadtRäume – CitySpaces. The 10-day presentation of the workshop results intends to have a significant impact on the market, and become an event for professionals from many related disciplines to view and discuss modern, trend-setting lighting concepts.
