Catch the Mela buzz and savour it to the full on this day dedicated to students with loads of activities, from quiz to painting, singing, skits and lots more. Relax being a spectator, watching Jujubee, a theatre play with masks and puppets. The bigger children are in for a treat later, soaking in the electronic music of the 6-member group Apparat from Berlin.
1. Colour Me Pretty: Sari Painting - One plain white sari - six colours - loads of students and lots of fun.
Students (9-12 years of age) of each participating school will be assigned a portion of the white sari. The challenge will be the limited choice of fabric colours available for painting: only black, red, gold, dark green, white and saffron will be available, the colours of the Indian and the German flag.
The workshop will open up a space for playful new interpretations of the flag colours based on the students' personal images of India, Germany and the connection between the two countries or simply of the Mela.
In the end, the efforts will be combined into an inspiring, bright mix of designs, ready to be admired by everybody during the following Mela days.
To make it a fair competition, juniors (6 - 8 years) and seniors (9-12 years) will be given different tasks, involving different materials and topics.
The younger students will be painting on cotton bags. Team work will be the motto as three students will be painting on one bag together.
As for the topic of the competition, in the end we will admire bags showing Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty or Hansel and Gretel. It doesn't take long to guess that the topic will be DEUTSCHE MÄRCHEN.
2. SKITS: (11:30 am - 4 pm)
An open space for students, which can be filled with all their creative ideas, talent, skills and knowledge. 12 students, 10 minutes on stage, a microphone and everything the students can come up with: theatre, dance, music, singing, colourful costumes and most important - a lot of fun for the students, teachers and their audience.
To add some more tension to the competition and increase the fun factor, all the SKITS will be filmed and uploaded on the homepage of the Goethe-Institut Chennai. So even if you missed to see the students perform live you can check out the videos, send the link to your friends and even participate In the public voting.
The winners of all the student competitions will be announced on Sunday afternoon, September 2nd, from 3.30-5.30p.m., on the Centre stage! Great Prizes are waiting!
