Indo-rock fusion
Rock to the sound of Indian Ocean, considered to be the pioneers of the fusion rock genre in India. Critics describe the band's music as "Indo-rock fusion with jazz spiced rhythms that integrates shlokas, Sufism, environmentalism, mythology and revolution".

Formed in the early nineties, Indian Ocean is one of India's biggest Indie acts and considered to be the pioneers of the fusion rock genre in India. The band plays an original mix of various genres - rock, jazz, classical, and folk and has played gigs across the country and toured internationally as well.

The band's current lineup sees them performing as a five piece band with Amit Kilam (percussion, drums), Rahul Ram (bass, vocals), and Susmit Sen (guitars) being the three original members of the act.
Information about artists
In the early nineties, Susmit Sen and Asheem first jammed as a duo, with Susmit on guitar and Asheem on tabla and drums. Later, Rahul Ram joined the band on bass followed by drummer Amit Kilam.  'Indian Ocean', the album was recorded in Calcutta. The album was almost entirely instrumental, rare outside the world of Indian classical music. It sold over 40,000 copies within a year of its release, at that time, the highest selling record by any Indian band.

'Indian Ocean' was followed by 'Desert Rain' - the first live album to be released by any Indian band, ever. It was a concert played at Mandi House in Delhi and recorded completely by accident! No major company was willing to release it, so a record company was created for the purpose. With 'Kandisa' , the first "proper" studio recording, the band became a keenly awaited presence and the international scene opened up dramatically.

The band has contributed music to several Bollywood films and has played with some of the world's leading musicians, - legendary folk singer, Pete Seeger, Japanese trumpeter Terumasa Hino and Vikoo Vinayakam, to name a few.

Their latest album 16/330 Khajoor Road was released in 2010.
