GRIPS Theatre
"GRIPS" is "Gripping Theatre". An innovative group takes children's theatre out of the fantasy world of fairy tales into everyday reality. The GRIPS plays see the world through the eyes of children. These plays address contemporary issues in society but do so light-heartedly and provoke without preaching.

At the Indo German Urban Mela GRIPS Theatre brings to you two plays - Nayee Bahar and Project Aditi.

Translated from the GRIPS play Dicke Luft, Nayee Bahar is the story of three young children living in a metropolitan city in the year 2020. Pollution levels are steadily increasing although most humans are still unaware of the impending crisis.

A new neighbor, the charming and versatile Bahuroopi Kaka arrives in the housing society. He takes the children, parents, and other neighbors on a voyage of discovery and the role of humans in saving nature.

Gradually, the children begin to take a more proactive role towards the environment. Their concern manifests itself in caring for an old tree in the courtyard that has for long been presumed dead.

The play ends on a hopeful note with even the villain of the piece undergoing a change of heart and the emergence of the first leaf.

Nayee Bahar is written and directed by Shrirang Godbole.
