The beauty of a forest, the pleasure of walking through it, enjoying the smells of the flowers; watching the insects flitting about and listening to the birds chirp – all of us enjoy it and wish to return to it again and again. It is this biodiversity that we have to protect and take care of.
Sanskriti Menon will focus on citizens’ participation in conserving biodiversity in Pune. The convention on biological diversity, held in Hyderabad in October 2012 has called for preparation of city level biodiversity action plans. India’s Biological Diversity Act too supports formation of Biodiversity Management Committees. Sanskriti will speak about opportunities in this sector and explore ideas for strengthening these efforts.
